Dr. Alice Tippetts (BM, DRCOG, FRACGP, DTMH)
Alice Tippetts was born in England and grew up in an idyllic village 9km from the historic city of Bath. Aged about 10 Alice announced to her mother that she wanted to be an animal auxiliary nurse, to which her mother responded "don't be ridiculous, you aim high, you aim to be a vet" Alice continued all through school (Ralph Allen School in Bath, a State Co-educational Comprehensive) with that aim of being a vet but just missed doing veterinary medicine by one grade.
With persuasion from others decided to apply for medicine. She secured a place at Southampton University obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine in 1988 and worked in Southampton and Swindon before moving to Exeter to complete her GP training. On finishing her GP training in 1994 Alice wanted to work overseas before burying herself in rural Devon middle class General Practice, and so headed off to Carnarvon in Western Australia to work for a year in the Aboriginal Medical Service there.
Seeing how there was such a huge unmet need in Aboriginal Health and finding she really enjoyed the work, Alice decided to return to Australia this time to the Aboriginal Medical Service in Kununurra (OVAHS formerly EKAMS). She spent 8 years there before moving to KAMSC in Broome in 2005 to work as a remote area GP focused on chronic disease, visiting the communities of One Arm Point, Lombadina and Beagle Bay on the Dampier Peninsula.
Tired of all the driving up and down the bumpy road in early 2010 she switched to the role of Renal GP with the Kimberley Renal Support Service and is now working to try to cut down the huge flood of Kimberley people developing end stage kidney disease.
Alice is passionate about health promotion and good nutrition and spends much of her time in the consultation trying to convince her patients likewise.
